How to Play Narutodle: A Complete Beginner's Guide

Narutodle is a daily character-guessing puzzle inspired by Wordle, built specifically for Naruto fans. Each day a secret character from the Naruto universe is selected and you have eight attempts to identify them. After every guess the game reveals eight colour-coded clue tiles that tell you how close your guess was across eight distinct attributes.

The eight attributes are: Village (the hidden village a character hails from, shown as the Species tile), Gender, Rank (the Grade tile — Academy Student through Kage), Affiliation (their team or organisation), Clan, Story Arc, Sage Mode status (the Domain tile), and Chakra Power (the C.Energy tile, which shows a directional arrow rather than a match). The combination of clues across all eight dimensions gives you enough information to narrow the field dramatically with each guess, even if your first attempt lands nowhere near the target.

Green means you matched that attribute exactly. If the Affiliation tile turns green after you guess Sakura Haruno, the secret character also belongs to Team 7 — use that to eliminate everyone outside that squad immediately.

Orange signals a partial match, and it appears almost exclusively on the Rank tile. Narutodle treats the rank ladder as a sequence — Academy Student, Genin, Chūnin, Special Jōnin, Jōnin, ANBU, Sannin, Kage, Missing-nin, Akatsuki, Other — and an orange tile means the secret character's rank sits directly one step away from your guess on that scale. Guess a Jōnin and get orange, and the answer is likely a Chūnin, Special Jōnin, or ANBU.

Red means no match at all. Two consecutive red tiles on Clan is actually useful news — very few characters share a non-"None" clan, so it rapidly shrinks the pool of possible characters without wasting guesses on unrelated attributes.

Start with characters whose attributes cover the most common values in the roster. Naruto Uzumaki himself is a surprisingly strong opener in some ways but a weak one in others — Konohagakure and Team 7 are extremely common, so a green tile there does not narrow much. Instead, try a character with a distinctive Rank and Clan, such as Kakashi Hatake: Kage-adjacent rank, Hatake clan (which almost nobody else shares), and Team 7 affiliation all give you sharply different information depending on which tiles light up.

Sakura Haruno makes a strong second guess if your first guess came back green on Village and Affiliation: she shares Konohagakure and Team 7 but differs on gender, clan, and rank, giving fresh information across every tile.

Avoid opening with Ōtsutsuki-clan characters or ancient background figures. Their unusual affiliations (Ōtsutsuki Clan, Other, Missing-nin) teach you far less about the broad middle pool of active-era shinobi and waste an early guess.

Story Arc is one of the most powerful filters in the game. The roster is tagged across arcs such as the Land of Waves, the Chūnin Exams, the Search for Tsunade, the Akatsuki Suppression Mission, the Five Kage Summit, and the Fourth Shinobi War. A green Arc tile immediately rules out a huge slice of the roster in one step, since most characters are strongly associated with a single defining arc.

Rank works similarly at the top end of the scale. Kage-level characters are rare — only a handful of Hokage, Kazekage, Mizukage, Tsuchikage, and Raikage appear in the roster at all — so a green Rank tile combined with Kage narrows your candidates to a short, memorable list almost instantly.

If you are down to two or three candidates and both their Arc and Affiliation match, the Chakra Power arrow often breaks the tie. Remember it does not confirm a match unless it turns green with a checkmark — an up arrow means the true answer has more power than your guess, and a down arrow means less, so use consecutive guesses to bracket the value from both sides.

After your first two or three guesses you will likely have several green and orange tiles. At that point pivot to characters you know are unlikely to be the answer but whose attribute values you have not tested yet — this "sacrificial" guess can unlock three or four new clues simultaneously.

Keep a running list of which Clans you have eliminated. Clan membership is unique in most cases — very few characters outside the Uchiha, Hyūga, Senju, and Uzumaki share a clan with anyone else — so two red Clan tiles let you cross off entire family lines from contention.

Study the character roster before playing. Knowing which characters belong to which arc, clan, and rank tier is the single biggest improvement you can make to your daily score, and the hint tiles that unlock at 3, 5, and 7 guesses (Affiliation, a blurred photo, and the first letter of the name) are there to rescue you if you get stuck.
